If you need to keep the battery for compensation

  1. Keep the battery in the damaged device.
  2. If you are in contact with the liquid leaked, rinse immediately with running water. If there are visible burns, contact your doctor.
  3. Ensure room is well ventilated and seal the device with the battery in a bag and put it in a safe place.
  4. Avoid handling the leak yourself to prevent chemical burns.

Dispose leaking batteries

  1. If you are in contact with the liquid leaked, rinse immediately with running water. If there are visible burns, contact your doctor.
  2. Put on gloves, an apron and glasses (if you have them).
  3. Ensure room is well ventilated.
  4. Remove the leaked batteries (preferably wearing gloves).
  5. Put the leaking batteries in a clear plastic bag and seal it.
  6. Put the bag in a secure place away from children or pets (immediately!).
  7. Wash your hands and dispose the bag.

Clean up the device

  1. Put on gloves, an apron and glasses (if you have them).
  2. Ensure room is well ventilated.
  3. (Preferred) Dip a cotton swab, a cloth or an old toothbrush in lemon juice or vinegar.
  4. Wipe the white crystals off gently with it until your device is entirely clean.
  5. Wash your hands!
  6. After the area has dried throughly, scrape the metal contacts to remove any residue and polish them with a pencil eraser.
