If you need to keep the battery for compensation
- Keep the battery in the damaged device.
- If you are in contact with the liquid leaked, rinse immediately with running water. If there are visible burns, contact your doctor.
- Ensure room is well ventilated and seal the device with the battery in a bag and put it in a safe place.
- Avoid handling the leak yourself to prevent chemical burns.
Dispose leaking batteries
- If you are in contact with the liquid leaked, rinse immediately with running water. If there are visible burns, contact your doctor.
- Put on gloves, an apron and glasses (if you have them).
- Ensure room is well ventilated.
- Remove the leaked batteries (preferably wearing gloves).
- Put the leaking batteries in a clear plastic bag and seal it.
- Put the bag in a secure place away from children or pets (immediately!).
- Wash your hands and dispose the bag.
Clean up the device
- Put on gloves, an apron and glasses (if you have them).
- Ensure room is well ventilated.
- (Preferred) Dip a cotton swab, a cloth or an old toothbrush in lemon juice or vinegar.
- Wipe the white crystals off gently with it until your device is entirely clean.
- Wash your hands!
- After the area has dried throughly, scrape the metal contacts to remove any residue and polish them with a pencil eraser.
